Food

When a disaster affects a community, the food supply in the community may also be affected. The food stored in your home may be lost if your house is destroyed. If the power goes out, food in your refrigerator will expire and you may not be able to use cooking appliances like stoves and microwaves if you don’t have a generator. If grocery stores and other food vendors are affected by the disaster, food may not be available in the community at all. Disaster relief organizations will likely provide pre-made meals, such as sandwiches, during mealtimes in a central location within the community or just outside the disaster affected area. Snacks may also be available throughout the day.
